Qatar Grand Prix 2026 in Doha: A Ground Logistics Guide
Doha, 27–29 November 2026: airports and private aviation, Lusail circuit access, exit times, districts and hotels, and what to confirm before flying.
The Qatar Grand Prix closes the Middle East swing one week before Abu Dhabi, and Lusail International Circuit runs its programme at night, which changes how a weekend in Doha actually works. The distances are short; the timings are not.
The event at a glance
The Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2026 takes place from 27 to 29 November 2026 at Lusail International Circuit, about 20 km north of central Doha, as Round 22 of 23 on the official Formula 1 calendar. Abu Dhabi follows the next weekend, so many guests combine the two.
Unlike 2025, Qatar is not a Sprint weekend in 2026: expect a conventional format with practice on Friday, qualifying on Saturday evening and the race on Sunday. Visit Qatar lists the race start at 19:00 local time, with qualifying and the second practice session scheduled after dark. Confirm the final timetable with the organiser closer to the date; small shifts are common and they matter for a schedule built around the circuit exit.
The circuit sits on the Al Khor Coastal Road beyond the new city of Lusail, and the track-side offer includes the Fan Village, Lusail Hill general admission and same-day post-race concerts.
Arriving: airports and private aviation
Hamad International Airport (DOH) is the commercial gateway, roughly 15 km south-east of the centre and about 20 km from the circuit by road. Two FBO-type facilities are listed at DOH: Qatar Executive, the business aviation arm of Qatar Airways, with private lounges, meeting rooms and airside limousine transfers, and Qatar Aviation Services, with VIP passenger and crew lounges. Slots and parking for visiting aircraft tighten around the race, so operators should file early and confirm handling with the FBO.
Doha International Airport (DIA), the former commercial airport about 4 km east of Hamad, now serves state, military and VIP flights and hosts the Amiri Flight and Gulf Helicopters. Access rules for visiting business aircraft are not published in a consumer-facing way; verify with your operator whether a DIA arrival is possible before planning around it.
On a normal evening the drive from DOH to West Bay takes about 20 to 25 minutes on the Doha Expressway; on Friday and Saturday evening of race weekend the same drive can double, and the extension north to Lusail adds more. A Friday-afternoon landing followed by the evening sessions needs a two-hour margin, not thirty minutes.
Getting around during the event
The roads to know are three: the Doha Expressway, which links the airport to the city; the Al Khor Coastal Road, which runs north from Lusail to the circuit and takes the bulk of race traffic; and the Lusail Expressway, which connects West Bay and The Pearl to Lusail. Under normal conditions the circuit is about 25 minutes from central Doha; on race weekend the organiser and independent guides consistently advise adding at least 30 minutes to any estimate.
Exit 32 on the Al Khor Coastal Road is normally the closest to the circuit, but it is frequently closed during race weekends, with traffic diverted through exits 29 or 29B. That detour alone adds around 20 minutes. Marshals and police direct arriving vehicles into the spectator car parks. For a chauffeured arrival, the realistic target is the designated taxi pick-up and drop-off zone, not a car park: the organiser confirms the zone exists, but its exact position and the rules for private hire vehicles should be verified with the organiser each year.
The alternative that works best for mid-weekend circuit runs is the Doha Metro. The Red Line ends at Lusail QNB station, and shuttle buses operate from there to the circuit. The metro bypasses the coastal road entirely. A sensible pattern is a chauffeur transfer from the hotel to Lusail QNB and a pick-up at an agreed point after the race.
The exit is the hard part. The race ends around 20:45 local time if it runs to length, and the post-race concert is what keeps part of the crowd inside. Leaving immediately means sitting in the car-park queues; staying for the concert spreads the departure over two hours and makes the ride back to Doha considerably shorter. Decide in advance and agree a meeting point that can be reached on foot.
Where the city concentrates
West Bay and the Diplomatic Area form the business district, with the Corniche, the towers and the ministries. Hotels of reference include the Four Seasons Hotel Doha and the W Doha. The drive to the circuit is about 30 minutes in normal conditions; this is the area to choose if the weekend includes meetings as well as the race.
The Pearl is the man-made island north of West Bay with marinas, residential towers and a resort-like pace. The Marsa Malaz Kempinski and the Hilton Doha The Pearl are the names most guests know, and the Lusail Expressway puts the circuit within 10 to 15 minutes when the road is clear.
Lusail is the closest base: the Raffles Doha and Fairmont Doha share the Katara Towers complex, with Le Royal Meridien Place Vendome and the Mondrian Doha nearby. Staying here keeps circuit runs short, at the cost of being further from the old city for dinner. Katara Cultural Village, between West Bay and The Pearl, is the evening alternative with its amphitheatre and waterfront restaurants, conveniently on the way back from Lusail.
Msheireb Downtown and Souq Waqif are the historic heart, with the Mandarin Oriental Doha in Msheireb and the Park Hyatt close by. Allow 30 to 45 minutes to the circuit, more on Sunday. This is the district for guests who want Doha, not only the race.
A sample day
Saturday, qualifying day. A late breakfast in West Bay, a morning at the National Museum of Qatar or the Museum of Islamic Art, lunch in Msheireb. The chauffeur collects at 16:30 for the drive north; with the coastal road filling, aim to be inside the circuit by 18:00 for a 21:00 qualifying session. After qualifying, a meeting point at the pick-up zone agreed in advance, and a drive back to Katara for a late dinner once the first wave of traffic has cleared.
Sunday, race day. Morning free, early lunch, departure from the hotel no later than 15:00 for a 19:00 start. After the chequered flag, either an immediate departure for guests flying out that night, or the concert and a 23:00 pick-up. A Sunday-night circuit-to-airport drive needs the same margins as the arrival.
Booking windows and what to confirm
- Hotels in Lusail and The Pearl fill first, followed by West Bay; book as soon as dates are fixed and ask for written confirmation of late check-out on Monday.
- Aircraft slots and FBO handling at DOH should be requested well ahead of the weekend, with crew accommodation arranged at the same time.
- Circuit access: confirm with the organiser which gate your ticket or hospitality package uses, where the taxi and private hire drop-off zone sits in 2026, and whether road closure updates have been issued for the Al Khor Coastal Road.
- Session times: re-check the official timetable in the week of the event.
- Visa: verify your nationality on the Visit Qatar checker rather than relying on a previous trip.
