Art Basel Paris 2026: A Ground Logistics Guide

Art Basel Paris, Grand Palais, 20-25 October 2026: CDG, Orly and Le Bourget timings, the Avenue Winston Churchill closure, the ZTL and where to stay.

Art Basel Paris returns to the Grand Palais from 20 to 25 October 2026, and for six days the 8th arrondissement works on a different clock. Avenue Winston Churchill closes to vehicles, the Triangle d'Or hotels fill with collectors and advisors, and the galleries of Saint-Germain and the Marais schedule their openings around the fair. This guide covers the ground logistics: which airport to land at, where the car can and cannot go, and how much time to allow.

The event at a glance

The 2026 edition brings 211 exhibitors from 41 countries and territories to the Grand Palais, across the Galeries, Emergence and Premise sectors. The organiser's calendar runs as follows:

  • Tuesday 20 October: Avant-Première, invitation only.
  • Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 October: Preview Days, by invitation, with the public vernissage on the evening of Thursday 22.
  • Friday 23 to Sunday 25 October: public days.
  • Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October: Oh La La!, the fair's rehang initiative, when galleries change their booths during the day.

The Public Program spreads across the city: the Petit Palais, the Palais d'Iéna, the Chapelle des Petits-Augustins at the Beaux-Arts de Paris, the Jardin de la Nouvelle France, the Parvis des Droits de l'Homme at the Trocadéro and the open-air sculpture walk on Avenue Winston Churchill from 20 to 25 October. Paris Internationale, the gallerist-run satellite fair, runs from 20 to 24 October at 187-189 Quai de Valmy in the 10th, with its preview on Monday 19. Opening hours vary between preview and public days and should be verified with the organiser.

Arriving: airports and private aviation

Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) sits about 25 km north-east of the centre and receives most long-haul flights, with the main alliance carriers at Terminal 2. By car the run to the 8th follows the A1 and the Périphérique; allow 45 to 75 minutes, and treat the upper figure as the planning number on a weekday morning or between 17:00 and 20:00.

Paris-Orly (ORY) is about 15 km south of the city and the usual arrival point for flights from Italy and much of Europe. The drive to the Right Bank via the A6, or to the Left Bank via Porte d'Orléans, takes 25 to 40 minutes outside peak hours and can exceed an hour when the A6 slows. Orly suits anyone staying in Saint-Germain or the 7th.

Paris-Le Bourget (LBG) is the business aviation airport, about 11 km north-east of the centre and the closest of the three to the Grand Palais. FBOs operating at Le Bourget include Signature Aviation, Universal Aviation, ExecuJet, Dassault Falcon Service, Jetex, Sky Valet, Skyservice and Astonsky. The car can meet the aircraft airside with the FBO's authorisation, and the drive into the 8th takes 30 to 50 minutes in normal conditions. Slot and parking availability at Le Bourget tightens during fair week; the operator should request them early.

GIORIZZ's Air and Sea Concierge coordinates the private jet or helicopter leg on request and aligns the ground transfer with the actual wheels-down time rather than the scheduled one.

Getting around during the event

The Grand Palais occupies the block between Avenue Winston Churchill, Cours la Reine and Avenue du Général Eisenhower. During the 2025 edition the Préfecture closed Avenue Winston Churchill to all vehicles for ten days around the fair; the 2026 sculpture programme on the same avenue runs from 20 to 25 October and the avenue is again pedestrianised for the occasion. In practice the Grand Palais cannot be approached from the Champs-Élysées side by car. Drop-off takes place on Avenue du Général Eisenhower or Cours la Reine, according to the arrangements the police put in place each year; the chauffeur confirms the exact point on the day.

Two further constraints shape the week:

  • The Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) in central Paris covers the first four arrondissements, which includes the Marais and the Louvre quarter. Through traffic is banned; vehicles may enter to reach a hotel, gallery or restaurant inside the zone, and chauffeur-driven cars with a booking are permitted. A hotel address or gallery appointment inside the zone is sufficient justification.
  • Place de la Concorde and the Cours la Reine corridor carry the Grand Palais traffic, and the evening of the public vernissage on Thursday 22 is the heaviest moment of the week. Allow 20 minutes for the last kilometre at that hour.

For a day of gallery visits, an hourly chauffeur is the sensible format: the car waits, the itinerary adapts as appointments shift, and parking in the Marais is never your problem. See hourly chauffeur service for how the format works.

Where the city concentrates

The 8th and the Triangle d'Or. The fair's natural base. Hôtel Plaza Athénée and the Four Seasons George V sit on Avenue Montaigne and Avenue George V; Le Bristol is on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré; Hôtel de Crillon faces Place de la Concorde. From any of them the Grand Palais is a five to ten minute drive, or a walk of fifteen to twenty minutes via Cours la Reine.

Place Vendôme and the 1st. The Ritz Paris and Le Meurice are inside the ZTL perimeter: nothing changes for a guest with a reservation, but the car enters and leaves by specific routes.

Saint-Germain-des-Prés. The Hôtel Lutetia on Boulevard Raspail anchors the Left Bank, and the galleries along Rue de Seine, Rue des Beaux-Arts and Rue Jacob schedule openings during fair week. The Chapelle des Petits-Augustins, a Public Program site, is inside the Beaux-Arts on Rue Bonaparte.

The Marais. The densest concentration of contemporary galleries, around Rue de Turenne, Rue Debelleyme and Rue Vieille-du-Temple, all inside the ZTL. Streets are narrow and one-way; the chauffeur drops at the nearest practical corner and walking distances between galleries are short.

A sample day

  • 08:30 Breakfast at the hotel in the 8th; the chauffeur confirms the Grand Palais drop-off point for the day.
  • 10:00 Preview Day entry at the Grand Palais; the car is released and remains on call.
  • 13:00 Lunch in Saint-Germain, with a stop at the Chapelle des Petits-Augustins on the way.
  • 15:00 Marais galleries: three or four addresses within a few hundred metres of each other, the car repositioning once.
  • 17:30 Return to the hotel through the Quai corridor rather than Rue de Rivoli, which backs up at that hour.
  • 19:30 Dinner on Avenue Montaigne or a gallery dinner; the chauffeur waits for as long as the evening lasts.

Booking windows and what to confirm

  • Hotels in the 8th and the 1st are committed months ahead for fair week; by early October availability is limited to cancellations.
  • Le Bourget slots and FBO handling should be requested as soon as the flight is fixed; verify with the operator whether airside pickup is authorised for the chosen FBO.
  • Ground transport should be booked with the full itinerary, including preview-day entry times, because the vernissage evening and the Oh La La! days have different traffic profiles.
  • Confirm with the organiser the opening hours for each day, the entrance assigned to your ticket or VIP card, and whether the Avenue Winston Churchill closure dates follow the 2025 pattern.

For agencies and advisors coordinating a group of clients across the week, the agency programme covers multi-car days, shared itineraries and a single point of contact for changes.
